MICTUNING Heavy Duty Trailer Towing Organizer Powder Coating, Aluminum Chain Holder, 7 Way Plug Cover, a Lanyard with Aluminum Ferrule, Durable, Anti-Rust, Upgraded Design Review

4.5 out of 5

Why I reached for this organizer

My trailer tongue used to be a tangle of chains and a 7-way plug that seemed magnetically attracted to mud. I’ve tried a few DIY fixes and one of those plastic chain holders, but nothing stayed tidy for long. I installed the Mictuning trailer organizer to clean up the front of my travel trailer, protect the wiring harness, and keep the safety chains off the ground. After several weeks of towing and storage with it, I’m glad I made the switch.

Design and build quality

This is a clamp-on, powder-coated aluminum organizer that mounts around a 2" or 2-1/4" tongue jack (manual or electric). The main plate provides multiple holes for hanging chains and cords, and there are formed side hooks specifically for the safety chains. The 7-way harness mounts to a small bracket on the face, and the kit includes a silicone plug cover tethered with a lanyard that has an aluminum ferrule. It’s a simple idea executed with better materials than the typical plastic options.

The aluminum is thick enough to feel rigid and confidence-inspiring, and the powder coat has held up to chain abrasion and road grime so far. I prefer aluminum for this application: it won’t rust, it keeps weight down at the tongue, and it won’t crack in cold weather the way some plastics do. The hooks are generously radiused, which keeps chain links from binding and makes it easy to hang and remove even heavy chains with gloves on.

Installation and fit

Installation is straightforward, but a couple of tips will save you time:

  • Dry-fit around your jack first to confirm you’re above any gussets, wire exits, or branding collars on the jack tube.
  • Orient the organizer so the side hooks clear any propane tank cover or bike rack mounts before tightening.
  • Snug the clamp bolts evenly, alternating sides, to keep the plate centered and avoid distorting the ring.

On my electric jack (2-1/4" diameter), the clamp fit was snug with a little persuasion, but I didn’t need shims. If your jack has a bulky plastic shroud, check for interference—rotating the organizer a few degrees often solves it. If you’re running a Jack-It bike rack, the organizer sat just above the rack’s mount on my setup with a small margin, so plan the height carefully so the chains and cord don’t rub the rack posts.

Hardware quality is decent, but I swapped in stainless fasteners to match the aluminum and avoid future corrosion staining. Not strictly necessary, just a preference if you’re particular about hardware.

Day-to-day use

Functionally, it does exactly what you want: it gets the chaos off the A-frame. The side hooks carry the weight of the safety chains and keep them from dragging or tangling with the tongue jack foot. The multiple holes across the plate are handy for routing and spacing things—electric brake cable, breakaway cable, and even a small padlock when I want to secure the plug.

I like that everything has a “home” when I unhitch. With the chains on the side hooks and the 7-way plugged into its cap, the tongue stays uncluttered and easier to work around. It also speeds up hitching because I’m not untangling links or wiping the plug clean before I connect.

Noise-wise, there’s no rattling from the organizer itself if you tighten the clamp evenly. Chains will always make some noise if you leave them loose; hanging them high and snugging a link over the hook keeps things quiet during storage.

7-way plug protection

The included silicone cover is a standout. It snaps over a standard 7-way blade plug with a positive feel and doesn’t fight you when it’s cold. The lanyard is anchored to the bracket with a small aluminum ferrule so you don’t misplace the cap. I mounted my harness so the plug points up slightly; that orientation, plus a dab of silicone where the harness enters the plug, has kept water out during rain. A little dielectric grease on the blades and you’re set.

A small gripe: the thin bracket that holds the plug sees a lot of action. It’s fine out of the box, but if you’re rough on gear or plug/unplug daily, the bracket can flex a bit. Adding a fender washer behind the mounting screws stiffens it, or consider upgrading to a thicker universal 7-way bracket later. It’s not a deal-breaker, just the one part I’d beef up.

Durability and weather performance

After a stretch of wet weather and a couple of towing weekends, the powder coating still looks fresh and the aluminum hasn’t shown any staining. Chains will scuff the finish on the hooks over time—that’s unavoidable—but it’s cosmetic. Because the organizer is aluminum, you don’t get rust blooms where the paint gets nicked. I’ve had plastic holders crack in winter; this one feels like it will shrug off cold snaps.

The silicone plug cap doesn’t stiffen up or split in the cold, and it keeps grit out well. It also prevents the plug from sitting in a puddle or collecting ice on the tongue, which was a recurring annoyance for me before.

Quirks and caveats

  • Fit tolerance: On jacks at the upper end of the diameter range, the clamp can be tight. Take your time with alignment and clamp gradually.
  • Bracket holes: The holes for the small 7-way bracket on mine were fractionally off. Easy fix with a ream or slightly loosening the screws to start both threads before tightening.
  • Bracket stiffness: As mentioned, the plug bracket could be thicker. Reinforce with washers or replace later if you want a more rigid feel.
  • Hardware choice: Works as-is, but stainless replacements are a nice upgrade if you store outside year-round.

None of these are showstoppers, and they’re largely solvable with basic shop habits.

Who it’s for

  • Travel trailer and camper owners who want their chains and harness off the ground and out of the dirt.
  • Anyone tired of wiping mud off a 7-way plug or untangling chains every time they hitch up.
  • Owners with 2" or 2-1/4" tongue jacks, manual or electric, who want a clamp-on solution without drilling the A-frame.

Who might want to look elsewhere: if your jack is a non-standard diameter or you’ve heavily accessorized the tongue (oversize battery boxes, unusual bike rack plates), confirm spacing before you buy. Also, if you never unhitch during the season or store inside, you may not get as much value from the plug cover and organization perks.

Practical tips for setup

  • Position the organizer high enough that the chains can’t swing into the coupler or jack foot, but low enough to clear any propane cover.
  • Use a thin rubber strip under the clamp if you’re worried about marring a painted jack tube.
  • Apply dielectric grease to the 7-way blades and a small bead of silicone where the harness enters the plug to improve weather resistance.
  • If your trailer has a long brake cable, route it through a secondary hole on the plate to keep it tidy and away from the jack switch.

The bottom line

The Mictuning trailer organizer does the simple things well: it organizes the messy part of the trailer tongue, protects the 7-way plug, and resists the elements. The aluminum build and powder coat are the right material choices for a part that sees chain abrasion and year-round weather. Installation is quick, fit is broadly compatible with common jack sizes, and day-to-day use is fuss-free.

I’d recommend it. The organizer brings an immediate quality-of-life improvement to hitching and storage, the silicone plug cover actually keeps grit and moisture out, and the aluminum construction should outlast plastic alternatives. If you reinforce or replace the small plug bracket down the road, you’ve got a tidy, durable setup that keeps the business end of your trailer cleaner and easier to live with.

Creative

Garage Wall Hook Organizer

Mount several organizers to a slatwall or a plywood rail to create a heavy-duty hanging station for chains, extension cords, jumper cables and hand tools. The multiple hanging holes let you stagger items so chains don't tangle; the powder-coated aluminum keeps everything rust-free and tidy. Add labels above each unit and use the silicone 7‑way cap as a little dust cover for exposed fittings or small parts bins.

RV/Camping Quick-Access Station

Turn one unit into a compact exterior camping station mounted to a trailer tongue or the RV frame: hang the 7‑way plug under the silicone cover, store leveling blocks on the hooks, and clip a small LED lantern or water hose. The lanyard prevents losing the plug cap at campsites. This creates a single grab-and-go location for hookup and campsite setup.

Bike-Rack Tool & Lock Holder

Use the organizer with a Jack It bike rack or rear hitch rack as a dedicated spot for bike chains, locks, spare tubes, and a small tool roll. Clamp it to the rack or jack, thread bungee cords through the holes to secure items, and use the plug cover as a waterproof pouch for CO2 cartridges or patch kits. It’s a low-cost mobile repair station for weekend cyclists.

Outdoor Plant & Pot Hanger

Repurpose the bracket as a decorative porch or fence-mounted hanging rack: attach several units horizontally and suspend small potted plants or herb baskets from the hooks. The corrosion-resistant aluminum withstands weather, and the multiple hanging points let you create an offset, layered planter display. Add rope or leather straps through the holes for a rustic look.
