Why I reached for these filler plates

Installation experience

Compatibility and fit considerations

These are advertised as “universal” 1-inch filler plates and specifically call out compatibility with Square D and GE. In my use:

- They were serviceable in a GE panel, with a minor top gap.
- They’re not intended for 3/4-inch spaces, mini/tandem-only positions, or non-standard cutouts.

“Universal” in the electrical world always deserves a reality check. Panel openings vary subtly across manufacturers and generations. If you need absolute OEM-level symmetry or you’re working in a jurisdiction that enforces manufacturer-specific accessories, verify fit on your panel first—especially for Eaton/Siemens panels, older load centers, or specialty dead fronts.

Safety and code perspective

From a practical standpoint, these blanks do what they should: they close an unused opening and restore the dead front, reducing the chance of accidental contact with energized parts and keeping debris out of the enclosure. That’s the first line of defense for anyone removing a cover.

Two caveats:
- Listing and approvals: The packaging and product page didn’t provide a clear UL/ETL listing reference. Some inspectors and manufacturers require OEM filler plates to maintain the panel’s listing. If your work will be permitted or inspected, check your local requirements or use the manufacturer’s blanks.
- Scope of use: These are for indoor load centers. They’re not a fix for damaged covers, missing knockouts outside the dead front, or any enclosure that’s not designed for 1-inch breakers.

Basic safety reminders apply: de-energize if you’re qualified to do so, use a tester, and if you’re not comfortable working in a panel, hire a licensed electrician.

Everyday usability

What I appreciated most was the “install and forget” feel. The blanks don’t rattle, they don’t push out when the cover is tightened, and they’re easy to remove without marring the panel. The non-slip claim held up: when I took the cover off for a second look, the blanks stayed in place on both panels.

The labels were more helpful than I expected. The print is high contrast, and the adhesive didn’t smear or lift when I pressed them into place.
