Cunno 2 Pieces Lighting PU Ceiling Medallion Ceiling Fan Cover Plate Medallion for Home Light Fixtures Trim, 12 Inch Od x 3.5 Inch ID Review
A small change that makes a room feel finished
I installed these Cunno PU ceiling medallions during a weekend refresh of two rooms—one with a new ceiling fan, one with a semi-flush light—and they made a bigger difference than I expected. They’re simple rings, not ornate flourishes, but that simplicity is exactly what makes them useful: they tidy up the junction at the ceiling, hide old scars, and add a subtle architectural line around the fixture.
What you’re getting
- Two lightweight, molded polyurethane medallions, white, 12-inch outer diameter
- A center opening advertised at 3.5 inches
- No adhesive or screws in the box (installation is meant to be adhesive-only)
The profile is minimal: a clean, beveled ring that reads as “finished” without drawing attention away from the fixture. Because they’re polyurethane, they’re dent-resistant and water-resistant, and they don’t feel fragile in the hand despite being thin.
Installation: fast, clean, and genuinely simple
Here’s how my install went on both fixtures:
- Power off at the breaker and remove the old fixture canopy.
- Dry fit the medallion and mark center.
- Apply a few beads of construction adhesive to the back (I used Loctite Power Grab; Liquid Nails Fuze*It also works).
- Press to the ceiling, align, and tape it in place with painter’s tape while the adhesive sets.
- Reinstall the fixture canopy over the center opening.
The medallions are light enough that painter’s tape alone kept them firmly in place while the adhesive cured. On the second install, I used a couple dots of removable double‑sided mounting tape to “tack” the medallion while I positioned it; then the construction adhesive did the long-term holding. No nails or screws were necessary, and there was no mess beyond a couple small adhesive squeeze-outs that wiped away.
One important note on sizing: the center opening on my set measured closer to 3.9 inches than 3.5. That wasn’t an issue for my fan (the canopy is 6+ inches), but if your canopy is smaller than 4.5 inches, the edge of the opening may peek out. Measure your canopy before you buy and plan accordingly. If you need a tighter fit, you can add a thin trim ring under the canopy or choose a medallion with a smaller inner diameter.
Fit and finish
Out of the box, the white finish is a matte, slightly chalky white that blends with most ceilings but can look a touch flat up close. The molding is crisp enough for a simple profile, though it’s not at the level of an ornate urethane medallion. There were no warps, and both pieces were consistent in size and shape.
Thickness is on the thin side—think sturdy, molded trim rather than heavy millwork—but once it’s on the ceiling, that’s exactly what you want: a low-profile ring that lies flush without telegraphing bumps. On a lightly textured ceiling, adhesion was solid, and I had no gaps after pressing and taping.
Performance and coverage
The 12-inch outer diameter is a useful sweet spot. It easily covered:
- A rough 6-inch circular scar around an old flush-mount base
- A hairline crack and an uneven patch around the junction box
If your ceiling damage extends beyond a 9–10 inch area, consider stepping up in diameter; otherwise, this size handles typical patch rings and stains well. The medallions are purely decorative—they do not and should not support any weight. All structural mounting still happens at the electrical box, as usual.
Because they’re polyurethane, humidity hasn’t been an issue. I installed one in a kitchen where steam is a regular occurrence, and there’s been no warping or sagging. They’re also easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Paint makes them look more expensive
You can install them as-is, but a quick coat of paint elevates the look. My process:
- Light scuff with a fine sanding pad
- Wipe with a tack cloth
- Brush on the same flat ceiling paint used elsewhere in the room
The paint knocks down the slight plastic sheen and helps the medallion visually disappear into the ceiling, leaving the shadow line to do the work. If you want the medallion to stand out, a satin or semi-gloss in a complementary color can look great, especially with dark fixtures. Latex/acrylic paints adhere well to PU. No special primer was needed in my case, though a bonding primer is a safe step on glossy finishes.
For a perfectly seamless look, run a thin bead of paintable caulk around the outer edge, smooth it with a damp finger, and paint after it skins over. That fills any micro-gaps on textured ceilings and creates a tight, shadow-free perimeter.
Customization and adjustments
- Center hole: If you need a larger opening, a hole saw or a sharp utility knife works on polyurethane. I’d avoid reducing the opening unless you have a trim ring, as cleanly shrinking it is trickier.
- Wire access: You can notch the inner edge with a chisel or knife to pass a chain or cord if needed.
- Sloped ceilings: These are flat rings. They’ll install fine on a slight slope, but you may need to caulk the upslope edge to hide a hairline gap.
Limitations
- Inner diameter variance: As noted, my inner opening measured nearly 4 inches, not 3.5. That matters a lot if your fixture canopy is small. Measure twice. If your canopy is 4–4.5 inches, expect to see a thin reveal unless you address it with a trim ring or paint match.
- Thin profile: The thinness is a plus on the ceiling, but it does read less premium up close than deeper, more sculpted urethane medallions. If you’re after an ornate, period look, this minimal profile won’t deliver it.
- No adhesive included: Not a big deal, but plan to have construction adhesive on hand. Choose a paintable, indoor-rated adhesive suitable for polyurethane.
- One size only: 12 inches is versatile, but it won’t cover larger plaster damage or oversized cutouts.
Value
A two-pack at this size is good value, especially compared to buying individual ornate medallions. The time saved versus patching, sanding, priming, and repainting a ragged junction area is significant. If you’re upgrading fixtures as part of a refresh, these are an efficient way to make the ceiling look intentional instead of “repaired.”
Practical tips for best results
- Confirm canopy size: Ensure your fixture or fan canopy is larger than the medallion’s inner opening by at least half an inch all around.
- Dry fit before adhesive: Check alignment and coverage, and mark your center.
- Use the right adhesive: A grabby, paintable construction adhesive holds best. Tape in place while curing.
- Finish with caulk and paint: A quick bead of caulk and ceiling paint makes the medallion look built-in.
- Don’t skip safety: The medallion is decorative; mount the fixture or fan to a properly rated electrical box.
Who it’s for
- DIYers wanting a fast, clean way to hide scars or oversized holes around ceiling boxes
- Renters who need a reversible upgrade (use a removable adhesive and be mindful of paint)
- Anyone adding a subtle architectural frame around a fan or light without going ornate
If you’re working on a historical restoration or you need a focal medallion with depth and carving, look elsewhere. This is a clean ring for modern and transitional spaces that’s about finish, not flourish.
Recommendation
I recommend these medallions for quick, low-effort ceiling cleanup and a subtle architectural upgrade. They install in minutes, cover typical blemishes, and look markedly better with a simple coat of paint. The polyurethane construction is practical—light, durable, and suitable for kitchens and baths. My only caveat is the inner diameter: plan as if the opening may be closer to 4 inches. If your canopy is large enough to cover that, you’ll be happy with the result; if not, choose a different size or add a trim solution. With that check in place, they’re an easy, affordable way to make a room feel finished.

Mini Mirror Frames
Glue small round mirrors into the 3.5" center to make a set of decorative mirror frames. Prime and paint the polyurethane (metallics, chalk paint, or high-gloss) or use gilding wax for an antique look. Arrange several on a hallway wall as a reflective gallery — lightweight design makes mounting easy with construction adhesive or heavy-duty double-sided mounting tape.
Decorative Wall Medallion Cluster
Paint multiple medallions in coordinating colors and textures, then mount them in an overlapping cluster to create instant architectural interest on a blank wall or over a mantel. Use patterned stencils, ombre finishes, or distressing to vary the look. Because the medallions are dent-resistant and waterproof, they can also be used in powder rooms or covered outdoor porches.
Clock Face Upgrade
Turn the medallion into a stylish wall clock: center a battery clock movement through the 3.5" opening, add brass or painted hands, and apply numerals or markers around the ring. The medallion’s molded detail becomes an instant decorative frame — a quick gift or craft-fair item.
Pendant/Ceiling Canopy & Hanging Planter Accent
Use the medallion as a decorative canopy to hide ceiling hardware or cord connections for a pendant light or macramé planter. Paint to match the fixture or contrast as an accent. Its lightweight PU construction allows clean adhesive installation without nails; it also works as a top decorative collar around suspended plant hangers.
Seasonal Wreath Backing and Table Centerpiece
Use a medallion as a wreath backing: glue faux greenery, flowers, or seasonal ornaments around the outer ring for a low-profile wreath that’s easy to hang. Alternatively, make a table centerpiece by placing a mirrored disc in the center and arranging candles or florals on top.
