FLEX 24V Brushless Cordless 6-Tool Combo Kit: Hammer Drill, Hex Impact Driver, Circular Saw, Multi-Tool, Reciprocating Saw, Work Light with 2.5Ah, 5.0Ah Lithium Batteries and 160W Charger - FXM601-2B Review
A capable six-piece starter that feels pro from the first squeeze
I put the Flex 24V combo kit through several weeks of mixed work—deck repairs, a small bath demo, and punch-list odds and ends—and it didn’t take long to realize this is a serious platform. The tools share a stout feel, smooth motors, and more power than most 18V sets I’ve used. It’s not a featherweight lineup, and some controls could be refined, but the performance-to-price story is compelling.
What you get is a 24V brushless suite: a 1/2-inch two-speed hammer drill, 1/4-inch hex impact driver, 7-1/4-inch circular saw, oscillating multi-tool, reciprocating saw, and a 300-lumen work light, plus a 2.5Ah and 5.0Ah battery and a 160W fast charger. Everything runs on Flex’s sensor-free digital brushless motors and the batteries use the brand’s heat-management tech, which matters during longer, harder cuts.
Hammer drill: compact torque with real concrete chops
The hammer drill is a nice surprise. At 750 in-lbs, it’s not the absolute top of the spec sheet wars, but it feels efficient and compact in hand. Running tapcons into a cured slab, the hammer action (rated 35,200 IPM) kept pace with expectations for a pro-focused 24V tool. There’s enough torque for spade bits and hole saws in framing lumber without smelling the motor or tripping protection.
The chuck bites reliably and the gearbox transitions between low and high smoothly. The body is a bit denser than some 18V counterparts, but the grip angle and overmold balance it out. Heat buildup was minimal—credit to the 24V system and thermal management—so I didn’t need to rotate batteries just to cool them off.
Impact driver: loads of punch, brisk trigger
This impact driver is a torque-forward machine at 1,800 in-lbs with a top speed around 3,400 RPM. Driving 3-1/2-inch construction screws and structural lags into PT framing felt fast and largely drama-free. The motor is smooth, with a refined impact cadence that doesn’t buzz your hand to death.
The one note: the trigger ramp is aggressive. It jumps up the RPM range quickly, which can be helpful for production work but requires a delicate finger for finish screws or when starting stainless hardware. Once I adjusted, it was easy enough to meter, and the power is undeniably there when you need it.
Circular saw: full-size blade, full-size performance
The 7-1/4-inch circular saw is the star of the kit for me. A 5,800 RPM top speed and a 2-9/16-inch depth of cut put it in true framing-saw territory. Ripping wet 2x and crosscutting 4x material, it held line and didn’t bog with the 5.0Ah battery. Shoe tracking is solid, the guard action is reliable, and the saw feels planted on long rips. It’s not a compact saw—this is a full-size tool with the heft to match—but you get the cut capacity and confidence that go with that.
I did most cutting on the 5.0Ah pack; the 2.5Ah will run it, but you’ll appreciate the extra energy density on longer sessions. The motor brake stops the blade promptly enough between cuts, which is helpful when you’re measuring, cutting, and moving quickly.
Reciprocating saw: fast stroke, demolition-ready
With a 1-1/4-inch stroke and up to 4,000 strokes per minute, the recip saw cuts aggressively, and the selectable orbital/linear action gives it range. In orbital, it chews through nail-embedded lumber and framing fast; switch to linear for metal cuts and it behaves. Vibration is well controlled for its size, and the overmolded handle keeps it planted against the work.
It is on the heavier side, and the blade clamp, while serviceable, can be a bit finicky if the mechanism isn’t perfectly aligned—once or twice I found it easier to blip the trigger to settle the arbor before swapping blades. Not a deal breaker, but worth knowing if you’re swapping between wood and metal blades all day.
Oscillating multi-tool: smooth and surprisingly refined
The multi-tool runs up to 20,000 OPM and is one of the smoother tools in the kit. I used it to undercut door casings for new tile and for a few awkward plunge cuts in drywall. It controls well, with vibration kept in check, and the motor tone is less harsh than many oscillating tools. Power is ample for wood and drywall; for heavy metal grinding, it’s the wrong tool anyway.
Work light: simple, useful, not a flood
A 300-lumen work light won’t replace a jobsite flood, but it’s handy. I clipped it on a ladder shelf to light a vanity install and it made aiming fasteners in tight spaces much easier. Think of it as a convenience bonus rather than a centerpiece.
Batteries, charging, and runtime
The two-battery split is smart: use the 2.5Ah on the driver or multi-tool to save weight and the 5.0Ah on the saws and drill when you need range. The 160W charger, with its high-power, dual-fan design, gets packs back in play quickly; in practice, I could top the 2.5Ah between task setups and keep moving without downtime, and the 5.0Ah reliably got back to work in under an hour.
Flex’s heat management shows up in extended cutting—after a run of crosscuts and rips, batteries stayed cooler than I expected, and the tools didn’t throttle performance. If you plan to live on the saws, a second 5.0Ah or a higher-output pack is a worthwhile add.
Ergonomics and build
Across the kit, the build feels rugged: no creaks, tight tolerances, good rubber overmold. The tradeoff is weight. Each tool skews toward the heavier side versus typical 18V equivalents. For a day of overhead work, you’ll feel it; for ground-level framing and demo, the mass works in your favor by damping vibration and helping the tools track.
Controls are mostly intuitive. Mode switches on the recip saw are glove-friendly, and the drill/driver’s gearbox and clutch are positive. LEDs are well placed on the drill and driver. The impact driver’s trigger curve, as mentioned, is quick, but predictable once you’ve used it for a day.
What’s missing and what could be better
- No grinder in the bundle. Given how often a cordless grinder gets used in remodel and metalwork, it’s the one tool I wished was included. The platform has one—you’ll probably want to add it.
- Impact driver finesse. A gentler trigger ramp or an additional low-speed assist mode would make it friendlier for delicate work.
- Recip blade clamp alignment. It works, but can be fussy; a slightly more forgiving mechanism would speed swaps.
- Weight. The robust build is reassuring, but long overhead sessions will make you wish for the brand’s compact variants.
- Work light output. 300 lumens is fine for close tasks; broader flood options would be a nice upgrade.
Also note that the drill and driver here are not the brand’s highest-spec “flagship” variants. If you want every premium feature under the sun, Flex’s line has higher-tier models. The ones in this kit, however, deliver strong real-world performance without gimmicks.
Who this kit suits
- Pros and serious DIYers starting or switching platforms who want a powerful, coherent 24V setup.
- Remodelers and framers who will use the saws heavily and benefit from the extra voltage and fast charging.
- Homeowners tackling renovations who value a full, ready-to-work set rather than piecemeal purchases.
If you already own a deep bench of 18V tools and only need one or two pieces, buying individually may make more sense. But as a single purchase to cover most jobsite tasks, this kit lands in a sweet spot for capability and value.
The bottom line
The Flex 24V combo kit earns its keep. The circular saw is a standout, the drill and driver are strong and smooth, the multi-tool is refined, and the recip saw is a demolition workhorse. The platform’s 24V architecture and fast, well-cooled charging translate into fewer forced breaks and consistent power under load. The tradeoffs—added weight, a brisk trigger on the driver, and a finicky blade swap on the recip—are worth weighing, but didn’t sour the experience.
Recommendation: I recommend this kit to builders, remodelers, and committed DIYers who want a robust, high-power cordless foundation with real jobsite performance. It’s not the absolute lightest or the flashiest, and you’ll likely want to add a grinder, but the core tools deliver where it counts: cutting speed, drilling and driving power, and uptime backed by quick charging and solid thermal behavior. If you’re starting fresh or ready to move to a higher-powered platform, this is an easy kit to live with and a confident one to work from.
