Why I reached for the Pegasus
Space is tight in my garage, and my work surfaces have to earn their keep. I wanted something that could be a stable bench for joinery one day, a pair of sawhorses for sheet goods the next, and then disappear into a corner without a fight. The Pegasus checked those boxes on paper: a 31 x 25-inch surface at a comfortable 32-inch height, quick-fold legs, and a claimed 300 lb capacity as a bench or 1,000 lb as a sawhorse. After months of use on carpentry, basic metalwork, bike repair, and finishing projects, it’s become a regular part of my setup—warts and all.
Setup and portability
The strongest argument for the Pegasus is how quickly it goes from wall to work. Grab the carry handle, lay it down, and the legs snap open in a couple of seconds. Folding it back up is just as fast, and it will stand on its own when folded, which is handy in crowded garages. At roughly 30 lb, it’s light enough to haul around the house or into the yard without a second thought, yet heavy enough to feel planted when you’re pushing a hand plane or routing an edge.
I do wish there were a secondary transport lock. If you carry it vertically down a ladder or pull it from a tight spot, the mechanism can start to open if you bump the release. A simple strap or bungee around the legs fixes it, but a built-in latch would be welcome.
Build and surface
The top is molded ABS with steel supports and fittings underneath. That combination is why the Pegasus feels sturdier than its weight suggests. The plastic surface shrugs off glue and most finishes; dried squeeze-out scrapes off cleanly with a putty knife. It will scuff and pick up the occasional nick from sharp hardware, but nothing I’ve seen affects function.
There’s a folding shelf between the legs. It’s ideal for stabilizing the footprint and for light items (sanding discs, a drill, a small parts tray). I don’t park heavy tools on it—think of it as a stabilizer first, storage second.
The integrated measuring guide is handy for quick checks and layout marks, but like all printed scales on plastic, I treat it as approximate. For anything precise, I still reach for a tape or square.
Workbench mode
As a bench, the 31 x 25-inch surface hits a sweet spot for small to medium tasks. I’ve planed drawer parts, assembled cabinet doors, shimmed frames square, and laid out hardware. The 32-inch height is comfortable for general work; if I’m doing heavy planing I sometimes put it on a thicker mat to drop my body mechanics a bit, but for sanding, routing, drilling, and assembly, it feels natural.
The 300 lb bench rating isn’t just marketing. I’ve had a solid-core door on top while mortising hinges and didn’t notice undue flex. You can induce a bit of racking pressure if you push hard on a corner with the shelf folded up, but with the shelf down and the legs fully locked it holds its line.
Sawhorse mode
Fold the top down and you’ve got a compact sawhorse that’s dramatically stronger than it looks. I routinely span two Pegasus units with solid lumber and sheet goods; the combined 2,000 lb sawhorse capacity is far more than I’ll ever need. The flat top is friendly to workpieces—no sharp brackets to dent edges—and I can throw sacrificial strips on top for circular saw cuts without chewing into the main surface.
If you’re building a long run of trim or ripping down full sheets, two Pegasus tables make a solid platform. For outfeed duty on my table saw, I matched the height with thin shims and the included links to keep things in plane.
Clamping and workholding
Workholding is where the Pegasus earns extra points. Two included 24-inch quick clamps slide into tracks on the table and can provide up to 301 lb of force. They’re not premium bar clamps, but they hold consistently and the table integration is excellent. I can secure a panel for sanding in seconds without wrestling clamp feet onto a narrow benchtop.
The four clamp dogs are great for odd shapes—bowls, chair parts, bike frames—anything circular or asymmetrical that wants to spin. Drop them into the dog holes, nudge them against the work, and you’ve got a surprisingly effective non-marring corral. I also use the holes with my own bench dogs and a holdfast adapter for more options.
A small limitation: when a clamp is mounted in the track, movement of the sliding head is restricted by design, so adjust your clamping position first, then lock it in. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s different from standalone bars.
Expandability
The Pegasus links to other Worx tables (or another Pegasus) with included connectors. They sit flush at the same height, so creating a longer or wider surface is straightforward. I keep two tables and often join them for finishing pieces or to support long stock with a miter saw. The connectors are simple plastic clips—nothing fancy—but they hold alignment well enough for most jobs. For really precise panel glue-ups, I still clamp cauls across the seam.
Ergonomics and stability
- Footprint: Good lateral stability for its size, especially with the shelf deployed. I’ve used it on slightly uneven pavers without drama, though there are no adjustable feet. Thin rubber shims under a foot solve that.
- Edge access: The open sides leave room for clamps and let you get closer to the work than on a cabinet-style bench.
- Noise and vibration: With a router or sander, the top transmits a bit of vibration compared to a heavy wooden bench. It’s not a problem, just the tradeoff of a lightweight frame.
Durability and weather
After months of indoor and occasional outdoor use (including a quick shower I didn’t plan for), the table shows normal wear: scuffs on the top, a few scratches, and some dust in the leg locks. Everything still operates smoothly. I wouldn’t store it outdoors long-term, but the plastic and coated steel don’t mind a little weather.
Maintenance has been minimal: a shot of dry lube in the leg hinges twice a year and a quick vacuum of the track channels keeps things snapping open and closed.
Shortcomings and small fixes
- Transport lock: Add a Velcro strap or small buckle around the legs for climbing ladders or tight storage pulls.
- Shelf strength: If you want real storage down low, drop in a thin plywood insert with a lip. It stiffens the shelf and helps corral tools.
- Precision layout: Treat the printed measuring guide as a convenience, not a calibration standard.
- Leveling: Keep a couple of rubber shims in a clamp drawer if you work on irregular surfaces.
- Replacement clamps: If you’re doing heavy glue-ups, augment the included clamps with a few quality F-clamps or bars.
Who it’s for
- DIYers and homeowners who need a capable surface that lives in a closet or against a wall.
- Pros who want portable support for punch lists, installs, or on-site finishing without hauling sawhorses and a separate bench.
- Hobbyists in multi-use spaces—woodworkers, makers, bike mechanics—who value fast setup and integrated clamping more than a massive, permanent bench.
If you need a dead-flat, immovable slab for hand-tool-only furniture work, the Pegasus won’t replace a 300 lb Roubo. It’s not trying to. It’s a flexible utility platform that gets you to work quickly and holds your project securely.
The bottom line
The Pegasus finds a smart middle ground between strength and portability. It’s quick to deploy, surprisingly rigid for a 30 lb table, and its integrated clamping and dog holes make day-to-day tasks easier. The ability to switch to sawhorse mode and link multiple tables extends its usefulness far beyond a simple folding bench.
I’d recommend the Pegasus. It earns that recommendation because it saves time, stores small, and provides reliable support in both bench and sawhorse roles. Add a strap for transport, keep a few auxiliary clamps nearby, and you’ll have a compact workstation that punches above its weight without trying to be something it isn’t.
