A field tech’s take on a 500-piece hose gasket kit

My service bag is full of little consumables that quietly save the day, and hose gaskets are near the top of that list. Materials and build

The green gaskets behave like HNBR: they’re supple, resilient, and compatible with common refrigerants and oils (R22, R134a, R410A with mineral/POE/PAG oils). The black gaskets feel like standard NBR. The white rings are noticeably stiffer—think PTFE or a similar plastic—which makes them good as support washers behind a softer seal if you’re dealing with a wider gap or a seat that’s not pristine.

From a practical standpoint, the green ones became my default because they seal well without requiring much torque. The blacks are handy for “one more chance” on a marginal seat. The white rings earned their keep as shim/backup washers to take up slack in worn hose ends.

Performance in use

I swapped in fresh gaskets on two 1/4-inch manifold sets and three hoses that had started to hiss under vacuum. Here’s how they performed:

  • Vacuum test: All resealed connections held below 500 microns for 10 minutes on a micron gauge, where previously I could watch the rise. That’s good enough for me to trust the hose ends again for evacuation work.
