Why I picked up this kit

I set out to clean up the spaghetti of hoses behind my compressor and give myself some flexibility for small pneumatic projects around the shop. After running it for a few weeks on a small manifold rebuild and a couple of bench-top projects, here’s how it performed.

What you get and how it’s put together

The kit centers on a 10-meter run (about 32.8 feet) of black polyurethane tubing, 8 mm outer diameter and 5 mm inner diameter (roughly 5/16 in. OD). Around that, you get a practical assortment of push-to-connect fittings:

A quick but important note on the threaded adapters: they’re marked PT (BSPT). If you’re in North America, your ports are most likely NPT. BSPT and NPT are not the same thread standard. You can often achieve a seal with Teflon tape on low-pressure air, but it’s not ideal. I used the supplied PT adapters into a block with NPT ports for a test manifold, sealed carefully with tape, and had no leaks. For any permanent installation—or where code compliance matters—use proper BSPT-to-NPT adapters or source NPT-thread push-in fittings.

Setup and installation

Cutting and insertion are where PU tubing lives or dies. The included cutter makes square, burr-free cuts, which is more important than it sounds—angled or chewed cuts are a common cause of leaks in push-to-connect fittings. I cut several sections, marked insertion depth on the tube with a Sharpie, then pushed each line in until it bottomed out. A firm tug to confirm the bite of the collet, and they were secure.

The fittings themselves feel precise. The collets release cleanly when I pushed the rings in and pulled the tubing out; no gouging or tearing of the tube wall. The elbows rotate smoothly but with enough drag that they don’t drift under vibration. I prefer this feel to some budget push-to-connects that spin too freely and can work themselves into odd angles over time.

The assortment is well chosen for basic layouts. Two elbows get you around the back of a cabinet or out of a manifold without sharp bends; the Y-splitters and tees make quick work of branching runs. If your project uses a lot of corners, you may want a few extra 90s on hand—the two included went quickly in my tidy-up.

Flexibility, routing, and bend behavior

Polyurethane sits in a sweet spot between nylon (stiff, high pressure) and PVC/vinyl (very flexible, but not great for push-to-connect air systems). This tubing is legitimately supple. I could route around corners with a gentle radius without kinking, and it had just enough memory to hold the path once clipped. For tight, tidy corners where I wanted minimal stress on the line, I used the included elbows rather than forcing a near-90-degree bend in the tube itself. That made for a cleaner look and less load on the fittings.

The 8 mm OD is close to 5/16 inch, which is listed on the package. That’s great if you’re standardizing on metric push-to-connect components or if your fittings accept 5/16 as well. Don’t mix 8 mm tubing with 1/4-inch OD fittings—they’re not interchangeable.

Pressure and leak testing

I plumbed a small bench manifold with a regulator and water separator, then ran an impact, blow gun, and a nailer off branches. At 100–120 psi shop pressure (with typical cycling at around 90–120 psi), the system remained leak-free after initial setup. I checked all connections with a soapy water solution and left the system pressurized overnight. No bubbles during testing and no noticeable pressure drop the next day.

I also used a short length to rig a simple vacuum test setup with a small pump. While this kit is marketed for air pressure rather than vacuum, the polyurethane walls held under mild vacuum without collapse and the push-in fittings sealed well when the tube ends were cut square. If you plan to use it that way regularly, keep an eye out for any flattening in tighter bends under vacuum; straight runs behaved fine for me.

Durability and feel

The black polyurethane jacket shrugs off incidental abrasion from edges and the occasional scrape. After snaking lines through a steel equipment rack and pulling them back out, I saw only superficial scuffs, no cuts. Polyurethane also tends to fare better than nylon in cold temperatures, and that held true in my unheated garage. On a 30°F morning, the tubing remained pliable and easy to seat or reroute.

One tradeoff with the black color: you can’t see moisture in the line. If you rely on visual inspection for water, clear or blue translucent tubing is more telling. I prefer black in exposed runs because it looks cleaner and resists light better, but for troubleshooting moisture issues, it’s not as informative.

Thread standards and sealing

Back to threads for a moment. If you’re plumbing into NPT blocks or tools and plan to use the included PT-threaded adapters, I recommend:

  • Use fresh, quality thread seal tape. Wrap with the correct direction and amount.
  • Don’t over-torque. Let the taper do the sealing.
  • Consider brass BSPT-to-NPT adapters where it matters (e.g., regulators, permanent manifolds).

Properly matched NPT fittings remove uncertainty and make maintenance easier. The push-to-connect side of these fittings was consistent, grabbing the 8 mm tube with a solid bite every time.

Where it fits (and where it doesn’t)

This kit is right at home in:

  • Shop air distribution for benchtop tools and test rigs
  • Quick pneumatic circuits on CNC enclosures, pick-and-place machines, or light automation
  • Automotive and hobby uses that don’t require DOT certification (e.g., auxiliary air lines, non-critical actuators)

I wouldn’t use it for:

  • DOT-regulated brake systems or any application requiring DOT-approved nylon tubing
  • High-heat zones (near engine headers, compressor heads)
  • Aggressive chemical environments without confirming polyurethane compatibility

The 145 psi working rating covers most single-stage compressor setups. If you routinely run at or above that, step up to tubing and fittings with a higher rating.

Value and completeness

As a “get started and get it done” set, the kit delivers. Ten meters of tubing is enough to plumb a small work cell, outfit a cart, or do a cleanup behind a compressor with a couple of drops. The inclusion of tees, Ys, and elbows means you’re not improvising sharp bends or making messy loops. The cutter and tape are basic but useful; I kept using the cutter even when I had a nicer one nearby because it makes square cuts reliably.

If I could tweak the assortment, I’d add two more elbows and offer an option with NPT-thread adapters for North American users. Those changes would cover the most common bottlenecks I hit.
