EZORKAS LANTERN 2 Pack Camping Lanterns Camping Accessories USB Rechargeable and Battery Powered 2-in-1 LED Lanterns, Hurricane Lights with Flashlight and Magnet Base for Camping, Hiking, Emergency, Outage Review

4.8 out of 5

A compact, two-in-one lantern that’s become a go-to in my kits

I didn’t buy these for a single purpose. I wanted a small, packable light I could trust in a power outage, hang in a tent, stick under a car hood, or hand to a neighbor without a second thought. After months of use, this two-pack of EZORKAS lanterns has quietly checked those boxes with a design that favors practicality over flash.

Design and build

Each lantern is a collapsible cylinder with a pull-up body that reveals a COB LED array for 360° area lighting. Push it closed and the lantern shuts off; pull it open and it springs to life. That simple mechanical “switch” is great in the dark because there’s nothing to hunt for—no tiny mode button to find just to get basic light.

There’s a small flashlight in the top cap, and the top button also cycles the beacon modes (solid red, red strobe/SOS). Construction is ABS plastic with metal handles. It’s not premium-feeling in an EDC sense, but it’s clearly built to be tossed in a bag, clipped to a branch, or hung from a tent loop without worry. The body has withstood knocks in my trunk and one low-height drop onto pavement with only scuffs to show for it.

The magnetic base is the unsung hero. Three magnets are strong enough to hold the lantern vertically on a steel toolbox or horizontally on a car’s trunk lid and under the hood. For hands-free tasks—resetting a breaker, patching a tire at night, grilling during a backyard outage—that base matters more than I expected. If you’re particular about finishes, place a rag between the base and painted surfaces; magnets can trap fine metal debris that might scratch.

Weather-wise, it’s functionally water resistant. I’ve used it in a steady drizzle and a misty morning without issue. There’s no stated IP rating, and I wouldn’t submerge it or leave it out in a storm, but splashes and light rain haven’t bothered it.

Light output and beam quality

The COB lantern is bright for its size and lights up a small room or a 4–6 person tent effectively. The light is a cool white typical of COB arrays, which helps with perceived brightness and task visibility. Beam quality is diffuse and even—ideal for area lighting and actually pleasant to work around because it doesn’t create hard shadows. For tasks like cooking, reading, or board games at a picnic table, it works well.

There’s no electronic dimmer. If you want less light, the trick is to pull the body up only partway. The lantern scales down output by physically covering part of the light panel. It’s not precision control, but it’s intuitive and, in practice, it’s enough to keep from blinding yourself at night.

The top flashlight is more of a utility beam than a dedicated torch. It’s perfectly adequate for walking a path or finding gear in a car, but it won’t throw a beam a hundred yards. Think “useful in a pinch,” not “searchlight.”

The red beacon modes are easy to toggle via the top button and bright enough to be seen at a distance. Coupled with the magnetic base, they’re ideal for roadside visibility. I’ve stuck one on a trunk lid in blinking red while changing a tire at dusk, and it did exactly what I wanted: made the car conspicuous without blasting white light into traffic.

Power: rechargeable plus AA backup

This is where the lanterns stand out for preparedness. Each unit has a built-in rechargeable battery and a USB charging port, plus the option to run off three AA cells (not included). That redundancy means a lot in real-world use:

  • Around the house, I keep them topped off over USB so they’re always ready.
  • In a longer outage or on an extended trip, I can swap in AAs from a drawer or my field kit.
  • On the road, a power bank or the car’s USB port recharges them without hunting for a wall outlet.

In lantern mode at full extension, I’ve consistently seen five or more hours of useful light on a full USB charge. The actual runtime depends on how far you extend the body (and whether you mix in flashlight or beacon use), but I haven’t had one die unexpectedly during typical evening tasks. Charging from empty has taken roughly two to three hours with a standard phone charger. The included USB cables are short; I usually use my own longer cable. There’s no battery percentage readout—just plan to top off after heavy use.

A note on the AA option: it’s a power alternative, not a charging system. The lantern doesn’t recharge AA batteries, and the built-in battery doesn’t charge the AAs. Consider this true dual-fuel, not a power bank.

Everyday usability

  • Hands-free options are excellent. The magnetic base, top handle, and side handle cover most mounting scenarios.
  • The collapsible on/off makes muscle memory your friend in the dark. No guessing which button to press for “just light.”
  • At-home utility is high. One lantern in a bathroom and one in a kitchen will keep those spaces usable during outages without balancing flashlights in mugs or resorting to candles.
  • In the car, one lives with my roadside kit. It’s small enough to be the “always there” light that actually gets used.
  • For camping, two lanterns spread out a campsite nicely. One hung in a tent and another on a picnic table makes evenings comfortable and safe.

Durability and maintenance

The ABS/metal combo is suited to rough handling. I wouldn’t expect the finish to remain pristine with regular outdoor use, but functionally it holds up. The sliding mechanism still moves smoothly after dust and grit exposure; occasional wiping keeps it from feeling crunchy. The magnets pick up metal flakes in workshop environments, so check and clean the base periodically.

I’ve had them out in fog, drizzle, and a few cold mornings without any functional hiccups. The ports are recessed enough to resist incidental moisture, but cap the port and avoid pressurized water or immersion.

What could be better

  • No true dimming. The partial-extension “manual dim” works, but a low/medium/high sequence would be welcome.
  • Mode cycling can require an extra click. If you’re using the flashlight and want the red beacon, you’ll cycle through. It’s not complicated, just something you learn.
  • No battery indicator. A simple LED bar or color change would help plan recharges.
  • The included USB cable is short. This is minor, but you’ll likely use your own cable.
  • The flashlight is modest. If you need a long-throw beam, pair this with a dedicated handheld.

None of these are dealbreakers for the intended use, but they’re worth knowing before you rely on them entirely.

Value and what’s in the box

The two-pack makes immediate sense for households and vehicles. I keep one upstairs and one downstairs; during storms, being able to hand a spare to a neighbor is invaluable. The box includes two lanterns and two USB charging cables. There’s also a stated 24-month support window, which is a nice safety net for gear that lives in glove boxes and garages.

Tips from use

  • To preserve night vision, crack the lantern open just a sliver for a soft glow.
  • For roadside use, mount the lantern high on the trunk or roof with the red strobe facing oncoming traffic.
  • Top off the charge every few months if they’re stored long-term, and test both USB and AA power so you’re not learning under stress.
  • Slip a thin cloth between magnet and paint to avoid scuffs, especially on new vehicles.

Recommendation

I recommend these EZORKAS lanterns for anyone who wants dependable, flexible lighting without fuss: households preparing for outages, campers who value hands-free area light, and drivers who want a compact roadside beacon in the car. The combination of bright 360° COB lighting, a pragmatic collapsible design, strong magnetic base, and dual power options hits the right balance of convenience and resilience. They aren’t precision tools with fine-grained controls or long-throw beams, but that’s not their job. As durable, always-ready utility lights—sold as a sensible two-pack—they’ve earned a permanent spot in my kits.

Creative

Decoupage Collapsible Lanterns

Turn the lantern into a personalized ambient lamp by decoupaging translucent vellum or tissue-paper panels around the outer shell. Materials: vellum/tissue paper, Mod Podge or watered-down white glue, small paintbrush, craft scissors, decorative punches or stamps. Steps: collapse lantern, glue paper panels around exterior, smooth seams, let dry, then expand to diffuse the COB light for a warm glow. Variations: seasonal themes (autumn leaves, snowflakes), kid-designed art for bedroom nightlights, or use metallic vellum for a glow-within effect.

Faux Campfire Centerpiece

Make a safe, portable 'campfire' centerpiece for table settings or patio nights. Materials: small collapsible lantern, orange/yellow/red cellophane, battery-operated flicker tea-lights (or use the lantern's light on low), small pebbles or faux logs. Steps: place pebbles around lantern base, drape shredded cellophane above the lantern so the COB light flickers through it, securing on a ring if needed. The lantern's collapsible profile makes storage easy. Use the red-strobe/SOS mode for a dramatic effect or to mimic embers.

Magnetic Photo & Memory Display

Exploit the strong magnets in the base to create a rotating memory display. Materials: printed photos, small binder clips or magnetic clips, decorative magnets, washi tape. Steps: mount the lantern on a nearby metal surface (fridge, metal board) and clip photos or postcards to the base and loop handle for hanging extras. The lantern acts as a backlight when needed—perfect for night-themed displays or a travel-photo corner in a cabin or camper.

Hanging Lantern Chandelier

Cluster two or more lanterns into a backyard or patio chandelier for gatherings. Materials: rope or a repurposed metal ring, S-hooks or zip ties, optional fabric shades or ribbons. Steps: attach lantern handles evenly around the ring using S-hooks, suspend from a tree limb or ceiling hook, connect power if using USB or rely on internal battery/AA. The magnetic bases add stability when placed near metal structures. Customize with seasonal decorations for parties or weddings.

Kids' Shadow-Story Lamp

Create a portable shadow-theatre story lamp for bedtime or play. Materials: cardstock silhouettes (animals, characters), clear plastic ring or embroidery hoop, clips, the lantern. Steps: mount silhouettes on the hoop and place them a short distance in front of the lit lantern; move them to animate stories. Use the red light mode for low-light 'night vision' storytelling. Great craft project to involve kids—design the characters, then perform shadow stories.
