4.4 out of 5

First impressions and what’s in the box

I picked up the Vkndoynt palm sander to fill a gap in my kit: a compact, cordless 3-inch tool I could use for detail sanding, spot polishing, and scrubbing tight areas without dragging a cord around. Out of the box, the kit is generous. You get the 16.8V tool with a 3.0Ah Li‑ion battery, a fast charger, a 3-inch hook-and-loop backing pad, 10 sanding discs, a wool pad, both flat and wavy foam pads, four fiber cleaning pads, and gloves. There’s no hard case, but the assortment covers most sanding, polishing, and cleaning tasks you’d throw at a 3-inch machine.

Build-wise, the tool is compact and light (about 1.65 lb with the battery). It’s more substantial than a hobby tool yet smaller than most 5-inch sanders or 3-inch pneumatic polishers. The balance is decent, with most weight in the handle. The body plastics feel better than “budget,” though the included backing pad and some of the foam pads are typical consumable quality—fine to start with, but you’ll likely upgrade or replace as you go.

Setup and ergonomics

The Vkndoynt palm sander uses a simple on/off trigger with a lock-on button. You squeeze to start and, if you want continuous operation, press the lock. The lock works reliably and is a welcome feature for longer tasks—just be mindful that a locked-on rotary at 3500 RPM will keep spinning if you set it down.

Ergonomically, the grip is comfortable and the tool doesn’t feel top-heavy. My only gripe is the trigger and lock placement: it’s workable, but it took me a couple of sessions to find a natural way to engage the lock with my thumb without changing my grip. Once muscle memory set in, it wasn’t an issue.

Swapping pads is a non-event thanks to the hook-and-loop backing. As with any small, fast rotary, take a second to center foam pads carefully; if they’re even slightly off, you’ll feel a bit of wobble.

Performance: sanding

This is where the tool shines. For small, focused sanding jobs—think 3D prints, furniture details, trim, and odd-shaped parts—the 3-inch format is fantastic. At 3500 RPM with a rigid 3-inch disc, it removes material faster than I expected for a cordless tool this size. I used it to knock down layer lines on PLA and clean up resin prints, and it made quick work of both. On wood, it’s great for spot repairs, molding, and sanding in corners where a 5-inch random orbital can’t reach.

Two notes:

  • The included discs will get you started, but I supplemented with a wider grit range. If you’re refining prints or finishing wood, having 80–1000 grit discs on hand lets you really dial in the workflow.
  • Because it’s a rotary (not a random orbital), keep the pad flat and moving. If you linger on an edge, you’ll carve a divot faster than you expect.

Vibration is controlled—noticeable but not fatiguing. Over a 20–30 minute sanding stint, my hands didn’t feel beat up.

Performance: polishing and waxing

As a 3-inch polisher, the Vkndoynt is a capable spot-correction tool, but it demands care. It’s a direct-drive rotary at a fixed 3500 RPM, which is on the fast side. That speed is useful for cutting oxidation on chrome or cleaning up small scratches on painted surfaces when paired with the right compound and pad, and the compact head lets you get into tight spots (around emblems, on motorcycle parts, between body lines).

For delicate work, the single speed is the limiting factor. Without variable speed, it’s easy to sling compound if you go straight to the panel at full tilt. My workflow to control mess and heat:

  • Apply compound to the panel and spread it with the pad while the tool is off.
  • Start with the pad flat and feather-light pressure, then increase pressure slowly.
  • Keep the pad loaded and avoid edges; small pads at high RPM grab easily.

It will polish small areas just fine, but for larger panels or final finishing on paint, I still prefer a dual-action tool with speed control. Consider the Vkndoynt a detail polisher rather than a primary car polisher.

The included foam and wool pads are serviceable. I tore one foam pad catching a sharp edge, which is par for the course at this size and speed—keep spares around.

Performance: cleaning

The “upgraded cleaning” pads are a nice addition. I used the fiber pads on a stainless sink and a grimy stovetop. The high speed helps scour quickly, and the 3-inch size gets into corners and around fixtures. It will fling dirty water at full tilt; an apron or shop clothes are a good idea, and pre-wetting the pad keeps dust down and reduces splatter. For stone and marble, stick to mild cleaners and let the pad do the work—avoid aggressive chemicals unless you know the surface can take it.

Battery and charging

With the 3.0Ah pack, I averaged roughly 30–45 minutes of mixed use per charge: longer for light polishing, shorter for heavy sanding or scrubbing where you’re leaning into the tool. Recharging took about three hours, which matched the spec. For continuous work, I’d want a second battery. For intermittent use—detail sanding, spot polishing, quick cleanups—one battery was fine across a few tasks in a day.

The battery clicks in securely and didn’t loosen during use. The charger is compact and straightforward, with clear status indication.

Control, noise, and safety

  • Speed: Fixed. That’s the biggest compromise. It’s simple to use, but you don’t get the finesse of a variable-speed trigger or dial.
  • Noise: Not obnoxious, but not quiet either—a typical small rotary whir. I wore ear protection for longer sessions.
  • Dust/compound control: Use a vacuum or wet-sand for plastics to cut down on dust. Spread polish with the pad off before starting to minimize sling.
  • Lock-on safety: Treat lock-on like a table saw switch—use it deliberately and be sure the work area is clear before setting the tool down.

Durability and maintenance

The tool itself feels sturdy and survived a couple of accidental drops onto a shop mat without complaint. The backing pad screw is on the small side, so I make a habit of checking it between pad changes. Pads are consumables; expect to replace foam and fiber pads regularly if you’re working near edges and hardware.

Brushless vs brushed isn’t called out, but thermal behavior was predictable. The head warms under sustained load but didn’t overheat or shut down during my tests. Keep vents clear, especially if you’re generating plastic dust.

Where it fits in a kit

  • Excellent: 3D prints, small woodworking tasks, trim sanding, motorcycle parts, chrome, spot polishing on cars, household cleaning in tight areas.
  • Adequate with care: Paint correction or waxing on small areas; use light pressure and keep the pad flat.
  • Not ideal: Large panels, delicate finishing on automotive paint, or any job where variable speed is critical.

If you already own a 5-inch random orbital sander and a larger dual-action polisher, the Vkndoynt fills the “tight spots and grab-and-go” niche really well.

What I’d improve

  • Variable speed: A low-to-mid range (say 1500–3500 RPM) would transform this into a far more versatile tool, especially for car work and delicate finishes.
  • Backing pad quality: The included pad works, but a higher-quality, slightly thicker backing pad would reduce the chance of wobble and improve pad life.
  • Optional second battery or case: A two-battery option and a storage case would make the kit more complete for pros and frequent users.

Tips for best results

  • Center pads carefully to minimize vibration.
  • For polishing, prime the pad, spread compound with the tool off, then start flat.
  • Keep spare foam pads on hand; small pads are easy to damage on edges.
  • For sanding plastics, try wet sanding to reduce heat and dust.
  • Use the lock-on feature for sustained sanding, but keep your dominant hand near the lock button to disengage quickly if the pad grabs.

Bottom line

The Vkndoynt palm sander is a handy, lightweight 3-inch cordless tool with more muscle than its size suggests. It excels at detail sanding, spot polishing, and tight-space cleaning, and the accessory bundle gets you working right away. The fixed 3500 RPM makes it quick but also limits finesse; for delicate paint correction or compound control, variable speed would be welcome.

Recommendation: I recommend it as a compact, value-friendly detail sander/polisher for DIYers, hobbyists, and pros who need a cordless 3-inch tool for focused tasks. It’s not a replacement for a variable-speed dual-action polisher or a full-size random orbital sander, but as a supplemental tool for small jobs, it earns its spot in the kit. If you frequently work on sensitive finishes or want more control, plan on pairing it with a variable-speed machine; otherwise, this one gets the job done with minimal fuss.
