Why I switched to retractable rack straps

• Wider, more forgiving hook capture slot from the factory.
• Clearer markings on the correct capture point to avoid user error.
• Pre-washed webbing to prevent initial dye bleed on light-colored surfaces.
• Optional stainless hardware kit for coastal users.

None of these are deal-breakers, but they’re worth noting.

Safety tips from the field

• Respect the 500 lb WLL and account for strap angle. Two straps over a ladder and one forward cinch is a safe baseline.
• Use the ratchet for final tension, not the take-up knob.
• Lock the handle fully closed so the pawl seats; check after a mile.
• Keep straps off sharp corners or use corner guards.
• Inspect webbing and stitching periodically; replace at the first sign of cuts or melted fibers.
