Torin Garage Storage Cabinets System, 8-Pcs Workshop Cabinet Set in Black, Included Steel Cabinets Drawers Rolling Chest and Pegboard,Locked Garage Storage Cabinet Review

4.3 out of 5

Why I chose this cabinet system

My garage had reached that tipping point where plastic shelves and random totes weren’t cutting it. I wanted a cohesive, lockable setup with a real work area, but I didn’t have space (or budget) for a bespoke build. The Torin 8‑piece garage cabinet system hit the sweet spot: a proper bank of steel storage with a 71-inch work zone, tall lockers for bulk, rolling base units for flexibility, and a run of metal pegboard to make tools visible and reachable.

After living with it and putting it through regular weekend projects, it’s proven to be a solid, thoughtfully laid out system—albeit with a few quirks during assembly that are worth planning for.

Build and finish

The cabinets are made from 0.8 mm cold-rolled steel with an all-welded construction, and they feel appropriately robust for a home workshop. The powder-coated black finish looks clean and has held up well to incidental knocks, sliding bins, and the occasional oily fingerprint. Is it industrial heavy-gauge? No—but it’s sturdier than the knock-down sheet-metal sets I’ve used and plenty rigid once leveled and fixed in place.

Doors land squarely and the hinges haven’t sagged, even with shelves loaded. The locks are basic furniture locks, but they do what they’re supposed to: keep curious hands out and allow me to segregate chemicals and sharp tools. I appreciate that every cabinet and drawer has a consistent look; the run reads as one unit rather than a pieced-together wall.

Footprint and layout

  • Overall size: 130" L x 19" D x 76" H
  • Two tall lockers, two wall cabinets, two 1‑drawer rolling base cabinets, one 4‑drawer rolling base cabinet
  • Ten metal pegboards and four connectors tying the wall cabinets together
  • A 71" workbench area centered in the run

At 19 inches deep, the system is shallow enough not to choke a one-car bay, but deep enough to store full-size power tools, paint cans, and organizers. The 76-inch height fits under typical garage headers with room for wall anchors. If you’ve got a water heater or a side door to contend with, measure twice; 130 inches is just shy of 11 feet.

Assembly and installation

Expect assembly to take an afternoon with two people. The welded cabinets reduce the “IKEA factor,” but they’re heavy and unwieldy on your own. Here’s what helped:

  • Stage and square: I set everything on cardboard, leveled the tall cabinets with the adjustable feet, and only snugged hardware until final alignment.
  • Align the upper run on the floor first: Connecting the wall cabinets with the included shelves before mounting made for easier spacing and squareness.
  • Have a step bit handy: On my set, a couple of predrilled holes for mounting the uppers to the tall cabinets were slightly off. A quick touch with a step bit solved it, but it’s a reminder to bring a drill to the party.
  • Anchor the tall lockers: They’re stable on their own, but lagging into studs makes a meaningful difference, especially if kids are around or shelves are loaded.

Instructions are clear enough with exploded diagrams, and the hardware is bagged in a sensible way. Plan on a stud finder, level, sockets/nut drivers, and a drill. The whole run feels cohesive once buttoned up.

Storage capacity and ergonomics

The system’s rated overall capacity is 820 lb, with shelves in the tall lockers rated to 150 lb each. In practice, that means:

  • Tall lockers: Great for bulky totes, paint, and long-case tools. The three adjustable shelves per locker are well-braced and didn’t bow under a full row of gallons plus a compressor. I do wish there were one extra shelf per locker for finer organization.
  • Rolling bases: The two single-drawer units are handy for frequently used items; I park one under the bench and keep one floating. The four-drawer cabinet organizes hand tools and small parts nicely. Drawer action in my set has been smooth and consistent under normal loads.
  • Wall cabinets: Useful for consumables and lighter tools you want in easy reach. The included connectors create a continuous bridge shelf between them; it’s a good place for long, light items.

The 71-inch work area is the star. It’s wide enough for bench-top tools plus a clear staging zone, and the rolling bases tuck under to keep the floor open. I mounted a power strip along the back edge and ran my chargers there; it’s now a charging station and a light assembly bench in one.

Pegboard that actually works

Torin includes ten metal pegboard panels, and they’re a big part of why the system feels productive. The powder-coated steel doesn’t flex like fiberboard, hooks don’t wallow out, and everything accepts standard 1/4" and 1/8" hooks, bins, and brackets. I set mine up with a mix of deep hooks for clamps, a row for screwdrivers and pliers, and a small shelf for glue and tapes.

A small note: hooks and bins aren’t included. If you’re moving from fiberboard, your existing 1/4" hooks will transfer over fine.

Durability and day-to-day use

Over several months of use, the finish has resisted scratching better than I expected for this gauge. The steel doors haven’t warped, and the cabinet boxes are still square after anchoring. I’ve rolled the base units around with a few dozen pounds loaded without any heel wobble or caster rattle, and the brakes hold on my mildly sloped slab.

The locks have remained consistent and haven’t stuck or spun in the housings. Shelves clip in solidly; once adjusted, they stayed put through typical garage vibration.

As with any steel cabinet system in this category, smart loading matters. Put heavy items low, distribute weight across shelves, and don’t treat the top of the wall cabinets as a heavy-duty mezzanine.

Quirks and trade-offs

  • Minor hole alignment: I encountered a couple of misaligned holes when tying the uppers to the tall cabinets. Not a deal-breaker, but have a drill ready.
  • Shelf count: The tall lockers ship with a reasonable number of shelves, but if you prefer narrow vertical spacing for cans and small cases, you’ll likely wish for one more per locker.
  • Depth realities: At 19 inches, the system keeps the aisle generous, but truly deep cases and organizers may sit a bit proud on shelves or need to be oriented sideways.

Safety and stability

Tall cabinets can be optionally fastened to the wall; I strongly recommend doing so. The adjustable leveling feet make it easy to plumb the run on an uneven slab, and once anchored, the system feels planted. If you’ll store flammables or heavy power tools up high, anchoring isn’t optional—do it.

Who it’s for

  • Homeowners who want a single, cohesive system rather than piecing together mix-and-match cabinets
  • DIYers who value a real work zone and tool visibility via pegboard
  • Anyone needing lockable storage for chemicals, sharp tools, or pantry overflow
  • Garages where depth is tight but length is available

If you require industrial-gauge steel, soft-close everything, or fully modular add-ons, you’ll be shopping in a different tier. For a well-priced, complete steel system, this strikes a practical balance.

Tips to get the most out of it

  • Map your tool zones before assembly: Decide which cabinet will handle chemicals, hand tools, fasteners, and power tools. It saves reshuffling later.
  • Install a power strip and task lighting over the bench while the upper run is off the wall.
  • Buy a mixed set of peg hooks and bins ahead of time so you can finish the wall in one pass.
  • Label drawer fronts and shelf edges; the organization holds if everyone knows where things live.

Recommendation

I recommend the Torin 8‑piece garage cabinet system. It delivers a genuinely useful mix of tall, wall, and rolling storage with a generous work area, sturdy metal pegboard, and a durable finish at a price that undercuts many comparable steel systems. The build is solid for home and light workshop use, the layout is thoughtfully balanced, and once leveled and anchored, it feels like a permanent improvement rather than a stopgap.

Plan on a few hours for assembly, expect to do a little hole persuasion if your set is like mine, and consider sourcing an extra shelf or two if you like tighter vertical organization. With those caveats in mind, this system turned my cluttered wall into a clean, lockable, and productive space—and it’s stayed that way.
