5.0 out of 5

I wanted a cabinet that balanced capacity, quick access, and sane pricing. After a few weeks with the Marcree gun cabinet, I’ve come away impressed with how much practicality it packs in for a family or hobbyist who needs secure, organized storage without moving into true heavy-safe territory.

Design and capacity

The cabinet is sized and laid out for long guns first, then rounds out the interior with smart organization. The published interior dimensions are 17.71" W × 14.96" D × 51.96" H, with space for rifles or shotguns up to 51.18 inches. In practice, that height spec is accurate: standard hunting rifles and defensive shotguns fit without drama, and I could still accommodate a mounted optic as long as I was mindful of where the barrel rested. Very long barrels or extended muzzle devices will press the limits.

Marcree includes a top-mounted storage rack, door-mounted pistol pouches, and an accessory bag. Those pieces make a noticeable difference. The top rack is where I parked magazines, cleaning gear, and small parts; the door pouches are sturdy enough for a couple of compact handguns and spare mags; the accessory bag is handy for odds and ends. The result is a cabinet that doesn’t become a tangle of slings and straps the moment you add more than two long guns.

The company rates the cabinet for 10–12 rifles. That number is feasible for slim, unscoped guns, but like most cabinets, real-world capacity drops once you mix in optics, pistol grips, and slings. My realistic number was eight to ten long guns while keeping them easy to retrieve, plus two handguns on the door. That’s still a lot of storage for the footprint.

There’s an interior LED that switches on when you open up, which makes a difference in low light. I could see identifiers on rifle cases and mag labels clearly without needing a headlamp.

Security and access

This is a cabinet first and a safe second. That’s not a knock; it’s about understanding where it fits. You get a digital keypad that accepts a 3–8 digit code, two physical backup keys, and a 60 dB+ alarm that sounds if someone bangs on the box or enters the wrong code three times. The alarm is loud enough to be a real deterrent in a house or apartment hallway, and it’s exactly the kind of feature you want to protect against curious hands or opportunistic access.

The keypad is quick and predictable. My successful opens took well under two seconds after entering the code. Out of the box, the pad beeps with each press; holding the “1” key toggles silent mode, which keeps access quiet for early mornings or late nights. Silent mode thankfully doesn’t compromise the tamper alarm.

Power is the Achilles’ heel of many electronic cabinets. This one mitigates that with an external power port. I tested it with a small power bank; plugging in immediately revived the keypad, letting me open the door and swap the internal batteries on my schedule rather than in a panic. It’s a small insurance policy that’s genuinely useful.

As for overall security, the locking mechanism engages the door firmly and the fitment on my unit was consistent. Still, this isn’t a multi-hundred-pound, fire-rated safe with thick plate steel and pry-guard lips. It’s a lockable steel cabinet with alarms and quick access. For keeping firearms secured from kids, guests, or casual tampering, it’s excellent. For slowing a determined thief with tools, you’ll want to pair it with smart placement and other home security layers.

Setup and build quality

Assembly is tool-free, which sounded like a gimmick until I tried it. The panels are labeled, the tabs and slots engage cleanly, and the sequence is intuitive. Working unhurried, I had it upright and square in about half an hour. A QR code in the manual links to a helpful walkthrough video for visual learners.

Shipping protection is thoughtful. The cabinet arrived cocooned in multi-layer packaging with honeycomb panels and dense foam. All parts were unscathed, and hardware and accessories were bagged and labeled. Once assembled, the cabinet feels solid for its class. You can get slight flex if you lean into the side panels—typical for assembled cabinets—but the door closes consistently and the seams line up cleanly.

The paint finish is uniform and has held up against a few careless bumps with a rifle butt and a toolbox with no obvious scratches. Hinges are smooth enough that I can open and close one-handed without a squeal.

Day-to-day usability

The Marcree cabinet is easy to live with. Organization makes a big difference; the door pouches keep pistols and mags off the floor, the accessory bag swallows choke tubes and bore snakes, and the top rack frees up the lower area so long guns aren’t playing pick-up-sticks. The interior LED saves time every single use.

The keypad is a high point. Button feel is positive, and muscle memory sets in quickly. I recommend enabling silent mode if you have sleeping kids or thin walls. The alarm is well-tuned; tap the cabinet and nothing happens, give it a solid whack and it will complain loudly. Three failed code attempts also set it off, which doubles as a reminder not to fat-finger your way into a lockout during stressful moments.

Fit, footprint, and capacity realities

The cabinet’s footprint makes it closet-friendly. I tucked mine along a side wall in a standard bedroom closet and could still slide hangers past the door without interference. If you’re planning under-stairs or basement placement, measure your space and mind the height; the 51.18" internal clearance means a full-length shotgun with an extended choke or brake may be a squeeze.

On capacity, a little planning goes a long way. Staggering optics heights, removing extended charging handles from door-side rifles, and using the provided rests will help you hit the upper end of the cabinet’s capacity without binding the door. If you routinely transport rifles with bipods or oversized muzzle devices, expect to lose a slot or two.

What could be better

  • No fire rating. If fire protection is a priority, this isn’t the product class to shop; consider a fire-rated safe and accept the higher weight and cost.
  • Panel construction. It assembles cleanly, but it’s still a panel cabinet. If maximum pry resistance is your goal, look to welded-body safes.
  • Capacity claims. “10–12 rifles” is possible, but the most comfortable day-to-day experience is a couple fewer if you’re running optics and accessories.
  • No biometric option. The keypad is fast and reliable, but some users will want a fingerprint reader. This model doesn’t offer it.

None of these are deal-breakers within the cabinet category, but they’re worth knowing.

Who it’s for

  • Families who need secure, organized storage that’s quick to access but won’t dominate a room.
  • New gun owners looking to move beyond a lockbox and into a cabinet that can grow with their collection.
  • Apartment or condo dwellers who value a manageable footprint and alarm features.
  • Budget-conscious buyers who prioritize organization and access features over heavy-gauge steel and fire ratings.

If you are protecting a high-value collection or want maximum burglary resistance and fire protection, skip the cabinet segment entirely and shop heavier, rated safes.

Recommendation

I recommend the Marcree gun cabinet for anyone who needs practical, organized, quick-access long-gun storage without stepping into the cost and weight of a true safe. It combines a reliable keypad (with a useful silent mode), meaningful alarm features, backup keys and power, and thoughtful interior organization in a footprint that fits real homes. Assembly is painless, the packaging protects the product well, and the day-to-day experience is genuinely convenient.

It’s not fire-rated and it’s not built to the standard of a welded safe—nor does it claim to be. Within its lane, however, it does the important things right: it keeps firearms secure from unauthorized access, makes retrieval fast when you need it, and keeps your gear tidy and visible. For families, hobbyists, and anyone organizing a mixed rifle-and-handgun setup, it’s an easy cabinet to live with and a solid value.

Showcase Lighting & Modular Racks

Add low-heat LED accent lighting, removable slotted racks for different barrel lengths, and door-mounted display panels for plaques or certificates. Make the interior modular so racks can be rearranged for long guns, shotguns, or sporting gear — ideal for periodic reorganization or photo shoots.
