Joywayus 4.0mm/6.0mm/8.0mm Nozzle Replacement Parts with Stainless Steels Clamps for Air Hopper Spray Gun Paint Texture Drywall Painting Sprayer Review
Why I reached for this nozzle set
A hopper gun is only as good as its nozzle. The orifice size and finish determine whether you get a clean, uniform orange peel or a spitty, inconsistent mess. After a few seasons of drywall patch work and a couple of texture-matching jobs, my stock tips were beat up enough to cause headaches: ovalized openings, burrs, and more cleanup than I care to admit. I picked up the Joywayus nozzle set as a simple, three-size refresh. It turned out to be a practical upgrade that restored consistency to my spray patterns and broadened what I could do with one gun.
What’s in the box
- Three metal nozzles: 4 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm
- Two stainless steel hose clamps (replacement clamps for the hopper-to-gun connection)
- A basic plastic case to keep the parts together
The essentials are here, and nothing fussy. The nozzles are a bright silvery finish, and mine arrived with clean edges and a uniform surface.
Build quality and machining
Nozzles live hard lives. They see abrasive fillers, occasional grainy mud, and the occasional drop to a concrete floor. These are machined from solid metal rather than cast, and you can feel and see the difference. The edges of each orifice are crisp and concentric, with no ragged tool marks. Internal surfaces are smooth enough to encourage even flow and reduce material buildup.
Over several outings, the faces resisted dings better than the pot-metal tips that came with my budget hopper. I also appreciated that the seat surfaces felt square and snug—no telltale air leaks or whistling when I brought the gun up to pressure.
Installation and fit
Swapping them in is straightforward. On my generic hopper gun, each nozzle threaded on cleanly without cross-binding. I tried the set on another common import hopper gun as well, and it fit there too. Tolerances feel right: not sloppy, not overly tight. I added a single wrap of PTFE tape to the threads out of habit; it wasn’t strictly necessary but gave a satisfying seal.
The included stainless clamps are a thoughtful addition. The clamp on my hopper neck tends to corrode and strip over time, so having spares in the kit saved me a trip to the hardware store. The worm gears engage positively and didn’t twist under tension.
If I have a nitpick, it’s that the size markings aren’t prominent. You can tell the 4 mm from the 8 mm at a glance, of course, but etched or stamped size labels would make identification faster when you’re juggling a tray of mud and a compressor humming in the background.
In use: what each size actually does
4 mm: Thin coatings and finer textures
I reach for the 4 mm when spraying thinned latex primer, light acoustic repairs, or very fine orange peel. With properly thinned material (think whole milk to light cream), the spray was even and predictable, with very little spatter. Best results for me were around 25–30 PSI at the gun with a modest material valve opening. Drift was minimal, which helps when working in finished spaces.6 mm: The general-purpose drywall texture tip
For standard orange peel and light knockdown, the 6 mm is the sweet spot. I ran pre-mixed all-purpose joint compound thinned to about a pancake batter consistency and strained it through a mesh before loading the hopper. At 30–35 PSI, the pattern was consistent across wall sections, and I didn’t have to feather edges as much as I’m used to. The roundness of the orifice translates into more uniform splatter sizes that flatten nicely under a knockdown blade.8 mm: Heavy textures and higher throughput
When I needed a heavier knockdown or wanted to move fast on a garage interior, the 8 mm opened up the flow. It benefits from a slightly looser mix and a strong compressor; expect to run closer to 35–40 PSI if you want a full, wet pattern without tailing. It was also the least fussy about minor solids that sneak through despite straining. If you ever attempt heavier aggregates (coarse silica or non-structural beads), this is the only one in the set that has a chance.
Across all sizes, the most noticeable improvement over my worn tips was how quickly I could “find” the pattern. Less fiddling with the material knob and air regulator, fewer sudden surges, and tighter edges made for faster, cleaner work.
Air and compound tuning tips with these nozzles
- Strain your mud. Even with good machining, any nozzle will clog on lumps. A simple paint strainer is enough.
- Start low on air and dial up. With the 6 mm, begin around 25 PSI and increase until the pattern is even with no tails.
- Mix consistency matters more than PSI. Thinning to a repeatable viscosity (I like a mixing paddle and a timed water add) will get you 90% of the way.
- Keep the gun moving. The 8 mm can overload a surface quickly if you pause even briefly.
Cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning was painless. The smooth interior faces shed compound with a quick soak and a nylon brush. Because the surfaces are well finished, dried residue doesn’t anchor as aggressively as it does on rougher nozzles. I’ve avoided steel picks on the orifice edges; keeping those lips crisp is the key to consistent atomization. A dab of light oil on the threads before storage helps prevent galling and makes the next swap easier.
After several uses and cleanings, I don’t see rounding or burrs forming at the opening—good signs for long-term durability.
Durability under real conditions
Between jobsite knocks and abrasive fillers, these nozzles have held up better than the stock set that came with my gun. The faces still read true under a straightedge, and there’s no deformation at the orifice. The clamps haven’t rusted despite a damp week in the trailer. Time will tell, but the early durability indicators are strong.
Limitations and quirks
- No size etching or minimal markings can slow swaps until you memorize the openings.
- The 8 mm needs a capable compressor to really shine; underpowered setups will produce tails and uneven splatter.
- You don’t get intermediate sizes. For most drywall work, 4/6/8 mm covers it, but ultra-fine finishing sometimes benefits from a 3 mm option.
None of these are dealbreakers, but they’re worth noting so you can plan your workflow.
Who this set suits best
- DIYers rehabbing a single gun who need reliable, well-machined replacements
- Pros who want a consistent trio that covers fine orange peel through heavy knockdown
- Anyone with an older hopper whose original tips are dinged or out-of-round
- Crews that like to keep spare hopper clamps on hand without separate sourcing
If you work exclusively on ultra-fine acoustic textures or specialized finishes, you might want additional sizes alongside this set. For everyone else, this is a practical baseline kit.
Value
Individually sourcing tips and clamps adds up, and availability can be spotty. Having a matched, machined set that threads on cleanly and ships with clamps simplifies maintenance and reduces downtime. Considering how much havoc a worn nozzle can wreak on a finish schedule, the cost of a quality trio like this one pays for itself quickly in time saved and rework avoided.
Recommendation
I recommend the Joywayus nozzle set. The machining quality is evident in the uniform patterns, the three sizes cover the vast majority of drywall and texture scenarios, and the included stainless clamps are a smart touch for keeping an older hopper gun tight and leak-free. Installation is straightforward, fit has been excellent on the budget guns I own, and cleanup is easy thanks to smooth interior surfaces. Aside from wishing for clearer size markings and an optional finer tip, I don’t have meaningful complaints. If your hopper gun is producing inconsistent splatter or you’re chasing your tail with air and material adjustments, swapping in this set is an uncomplicated, effective fix.
