ASHGOOB 2 Inch Caster Wheels, Casters Set of 4, ASHGOOB Red Polyurethane (PU) Casters with Brake Heavy Duty, Industrial Locking Swivel Top Plate Castor Wheels for Workbench/Furniture/Cart Review
I needed a low-profile set of wheels to make a couple of shop projects mobile without turning them into top-heavy roller skates. The 2-inch ASHGOOB casters fit the bill on paper: compact, PU wheels, double-lock brakes, plate mount, and a stated 400 lb capacity for the set. After putting two sets to work—one under a plywood tool cabinet and another on a rolling base I use for moving a fan and small machines—I came away impressed, with a few caveats worth noting.
What’s in the box and first impressions
Each set includes four swivel casters with brakes, 16 screws, and washers. The casters themselves look and feel better than their price suggests: clean stampings on the top plates, smooth swivel action out of the box, and wheels that don’t feel gummy or overly soft. The red polyurethane treads are on the firmer side, which I generally prefer in a 2-inch caster because it resists flat-spotting under load and doesn’t grab debris as easily.
The swivel and wheel both ride on ball bearings, and you can feel it: there’s very little stiction when you spin or rotate them by hand. The brake pedal engages a double-lock—meaning it locks both the wheel and the swivel—so when you park something, it actually stays put instead of slowly pivoting around.
Installation notes
These are top-plate casters, so you’ll need a reasonably flat, solid mounting surface and access for four screws per caster. The included screws and washers will get you by for light loads, but they’re small and flat-headed; for anything approaching the claimed load, I recommend upgrading:
- For plywood or hardwood: #10 pan-head wood screws with washers, 1 to 1-1/4 inches long, pre-drilled.
- For MDF: through-bolts with lock nuts and fender washers.
- For 2x or 4x stock: 1-1/2 to 2-inch wood screws or structural screws.
I oriented the brakes so the pedals face outward on two corners and inward on the other two. That gives me at least two pedals easy to reach, regardless of which side is accessible.
One nice touch: the wheel axle is a through-bolt with a nut. If something gets wrapped around the axle (dust, string, hair), you can remove the wheel to clean it without destroying the caster.
Performance in the shop
On a smooth concrete floor, the ASHGOOB 2-inch casters roll quietly and predictably. Under a 120–150 lb cabinet, they pivot without binding and track straight when pushed. The firmer PU tread doesn’t leave marks on sealed concrete or vinyl, and it’s quiet on hardwood. On thin, low-pile carpet they still move acceptably, though you’ll feel more resistance—as you do with any small caster.
These are swivel casters on all four corners, not a fixed/swivel mix. For tight spaces, that’s a big advantage: you can crab-walk a cabinet sideways or rotate it in place. If you prefer straight-line tracking over high maneuverability, you might miss a pair of fixed casters; that’s a use-case preference, not a flaw.
Braking and stability
The double-lock brake is the standout feature. Step on the pedal and both the wheel and the swivel lock, which eliminates the “locked wheel but still pivoting” annoyance of single-lock designs. The pedals are accessible and large enough to operate with a toe or boot. Releasing the lock is positive and doesn’t require a wrestling match—important on smaller casters where pedal geometry can be cramped.
Because all four casters include brakes, you can lock the piece from whichever corners you can reach. The flip side is that you’ll often need to engage at least two to three brakes for absolute stability on uneven floors. For shop use, that’s acceptable and normal in this size class.
Load capacity and real-world expectations
ASHGOOB rates the set at 400 lb total, or about 100 lb per caster. That’s believable for smooth, hard floors when all four wheels remain in contact. In real shops, floors aren’t perfectly flat, and dynamic loads (pushing, hitting small debris, crossing thresholds) can momentarily overload one wheel. As a rule of thumb, if you’re routinely above 300 lb, consider stepping up to 3- or 4-inch casters for better margin, smoother rolling over small obstacles, and higher brake leverage. For furniture, small machines, a tool cabinet, or a rolling base under a fan or planer, these 2-inchers are a solid match.
Durability and maintenance
After a few weeks of daily use, the wheels show no edge fraying or flat spots, and the swivels haven’t developed play. The bearings are shielded but not sealed, so a drop of light oil in the swivel race and wheel hub every few months will keep them spinning freely. The PU tread is firm enough that small chips don’t embed easily, and it shrugs off the usual concrete dust.
As with any small caster, the enemy is thread and hair wrapping around the axle. The removable axle helps here; it takes two minutes to pop the wheel off and clear it.
Where they work best
- Low-profile mobility for furniture and shop cabinets.
- Hard floors: concrete, epoxy, vinyl, hardwood, and laminate.
- Applications where you want all four corners to swivel for tight maneuvering.
- Projects that benefit from a true double-lock brake to prevent swivel creep.
Where they’re not ideal
- Heavy machinery or loads nearing the 400 lb set rating on uneven floors.
- Rough outdoor surfaces, expansion joints, or thick carpet—go larger in diameter.
- Situations where you want fixed wheels for straight tracking; this set is all-swivel.
Practical tips for better results
- Upgrade the mounting hardware. Use larger pan-head screws or through-bolts with washers.
- Pre-drill pilot holes to avoid splitting and to make installation easier.
- Plan brake orientation before driving the first screw so the pedals are accessible.
- If you need greater ground clearance or to roll over cords/thresholds, choose a 3- or 4-inch caster instead.
- Don’t exceed about three-quarters of the rated load if you’ll be moving the item frequently over less-than-perfect floors.
Value and alternatives
In the 2-inch, plate-mount category, you’ll find a lot of soft, bushing-based wheels that flat-spot and noisy swivels that grind after a month. These feel a step above that baseline: real bearings, firm PU, and a double-lock that actually holds. If you need more load or better obstacle clearance, the next step up is a bigger wheel diameter, not a different 2-inch caster. But for compact builds where height matters, these are a good balance of maneuverability, quiet operation, and control.
The bottom line
ASHGOOB’s 2-inch casters are a capable, compact solution for light- to medium-duty shop and home projects. They roll smoothly, the double-lock brakes are trustworthy, and the polyurethane wheels are floor-friendly across the usual indoor surfaces. Installation is straightforward, though I strongly recommend swapping in better fasteners than the included screws if your load is more than a lightweight cabinet.
I recommend these casters for anyone who needs low-profile mobility under roughly 300 lb, values all-swivel maneuverability, and wants brakes that stop both roll and rotation. If you routinely push heavier loads across uneven floors or need to cross thresholds and cords, step up in wheel diameter instead—but within their intended range, these are an easy choice.
