Hoomace 2 In 1 Small Humidifier Dehumidifier Combo, Humidifiers Dehumidifier For Home Bedroom With Drain Hose Temperature Display,4 Modes,7 Color LED Lights,Timer Set Review
Why I wanted a compact 2-in-1
My apartment swings from desert-dry in winter to sticky in late summer, so the idea of one small box that can push humidity up or pull it down was appealing. I’ve been using the Hoomace combo for several weeks in spaces that actually need help—my bedroom, a small home office, and a windowless closet that tends to get musty. It’s not a powerhouse, but in the right scenarios it’s surprisingly handy.
Design, size, and setup
The unit is compact and light enough to carry from room to room—think “thick hardcover book” footprint—so it doesn’t dominate a nightstand or shelf. The front display shows temperature and humidity, and there’s a strip of soft, seven-color lighting you can fix on one shade or turn off. The water tank is about a liter and slides out for filling or emptying; there’s also a short drain hose in the box if you want continuous dehumidifying without emptying the tank.
Build quality feels decent for the price: plastics fit well, the tank seats securely, and the filter pops out easily for rinsing. The controls are straightforward once you learn them, though the printed manual is a clumsy translation and doesn’t do the interface any favors. Expect a short learning curve the first day.
A note on placement: give it a few inches of clearance on all sides and keep it on a level surface. If you’ll use the drain hose, plan on elevating the unit so gravity can do its work into a sink or container—the included hose is on the short side.
Modes and everyday usability
There are four modes: humidifying, dehumidifying, a forced dehumidification setting (basically high/continuous), and an auto mode designed to maintain a set humidity. There’s a basic run timer, and you can set a target humidity. Noise-wise, it’s pleasantly unobtrusive—a soft fan and faint hum that blend into background noise. I slept with it on without issue.
One quirk: turning off the colored lights also disables the display. I’d prefer independent toggles so I could kill the mood lighting but keep the temperature/humidity readout. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it feels like a missed opportunity.
The small washable prefilter is a thoughtful touch. It won’t replace a HEPA purifier, but it does catch dust and some pollen, and keeping the intake clear helps the unit perform consistently.
Humidifying performance
In a 120–150 square foot bedroom during a dry snap (mid-30% RH to start), the humidifier bumped the room into the low-40s over a couple hours and kept it there on a moderate setting. That was enough to ease dry throat and static without fogging the windows. Running it on a higher output moved faster, but the 1-liter tank then lasted roughly one long evening—think overnight on low, not a full 24 hours. If you’re hoping to humidify an open-plan living room, this isn’t the right tool; for a small bedroom or office, it’s appropriately sized.
The mist is fine and even. With distilled or demineralized water, I didn’t see any white dust on nearby surfaces. Cleaning is straightforward: I wiped the tank and base weekly and soaked the tank with a little vinegar every couple of weeks to discourage scale.
The auto mode is convenient in theory but imperfect in practice for humidifying. The humidity sensor sits in the housing, and if the unit is angled so the mist blows toward its own intake, the sensor reads overly high and shuts the output down early. The simple workaround: point the mist away from the intake, keep the fan on a lower setting, or just set a manual output and check the room’s RH with a separate hygrometer. Once I did that, humidifying was predictable.
Dehumidifying performance
For dehumidifying, think closets, small bedrooms, bathrooms after a shower, a pantry, or a corner of a basement—spaces up to roughly 150 square feet with moderate dampness. In a small bathroom with lingering humidity after showers, it pulled the RH from the mid-70s to around 60% in a couple of hours. In a musty closet, it collected a noticeable amount of water overnight and kept the air from feeling clammy. On a humid day in my home office, it filled about half the tank by late evening.
Like most compact thermoelectric dehumidifiers, it’s not built to wring out a very damp basement or a large living area. If you’re battling high humidity in a big room or a wet season in a coastal climate, you’ll want a dedicated compressor-based dehumidifier with a much larger daily capacity. Here, the Hoomace is at its best as a tidy spot solution.
The forced dehumidification mode helps if a small space gets soggy (say, after cooking or laundry), and that’s where the drain hose becomes valuable—you can run it continuously without babying the tank. Just be aware that the included hose is short; plan your setup accordingly.
Noise, lights, and living with it
Noise is “library quiet” and consistent, which makes it easy to sleep next to. There’s no abrupt cycling or clicking, just a steady fan. The LED lighting is purely optional. I used it as a soft night light a couple times but generally left it off. Again, I wish the display could remain lit while the mood lights stayed off, but as it stands, you choose one or the other.
Maintenance and cleaning
Maintenance is minimal:
- Empty and rinse the tank regularly; don’t let water sit for days.
- Rinse the non-woven filter every couple of weeks, more often if you see visible dust.
- Use distilled water for humidifying if your tap water is hard.
- Wipe exterior vents and the tank with a soft cloth; an occasional vinegar soak keeps mineral buildup in check.
The tank design is easy to handle and pour without spills, and the auto shutoff works properly when it’s empty or the tank is removed.
What I liked
- Truly compact and quiet—ideal for bedside use
- Legitimately useful in both directions (adds or removes moisture) for small spaces
- Simple drain option for hands-off dehumidifying
- Washable intake filter extends life and helps with dust
- Basic but useful timer and humidity target
- Clean humidification without mineral “snow” when using distilled water
What could be better
- Auto mode can misread humidity during humidifying if the mist reaches the sensor
- Small tank means frequent refills on high output; better for small rooms
- Dehumidification capacity is modest; not suitable for large or very damp areas
- Turning off the LEDs also kills the display
- The manual and labeling should be clearer
Who it’s for
If you need a quiet, compact device to keep a small bedroom, office, closet, or pantry in a comfortable humidity range through changing seasons, this combo makes sense. It’s especially useful in rentals or small homes where space matters and you don’t want separate appliances for winter and summer. If your expectations are calibrated—spot humidifying and dehumidifying rather than whole-room dominance—it’s a convenient, low-maintenance solution.
If you’re trying to tame a humid basement, dry out a large living room, or maintain tight humidity control for sensitive gear, look elsewhere. You’ll want larger-capacity, single-purpose machines with more airflow and bigger reservoirs.
Verdict and recommendation
I enjoyed living with the Hoomace combo because it solves real, everyday comfort issues in small spaces without fuss. It’s quiet, compact, and genuinely useful on both sides of the humidity equation, with easy maintenance and a thoughtful drain option. The auto mode’s sensor placement limits its usefulness for humidifying, and the small tank means it’s not a set-and-forget solution at high output. But within its intended scope—small rooms and moderate moisture swings—it performs reliably.
I recommend it for small-space users who value quiet operation and want a practical 2-in-1 that doesn’t take over the room. I wouldn’t recommend it if you need heavy-duty dehumidification or whole-room humidifying; in those cases, dedicated, higher-capacity units will serve you better.
