The turn-to-edge feature is a nice touch, allowing you to switch from trimming to edging with a simple twist of the shaft. The integrated wheeled edge guide should, in theory, make edging more precise, and the automatic feed spool is designed to extend the trimmer line without manual intervention.

However, the build quality leaves much to be desired. The plastic components, particularly around the spool and trimmer head, feel flimsy. Over time, these parts are prone to breaking, which can render the tool unusable. I found myself questioning the longevity of this trimmer after just a few uses.

Performance

Performance is where this tool struggles the most. The 20V MAX* Lithium-Ion battery is supposed to offer consistent power, but in practice, it falls short. The battery life is disappointingly short, lasting about 15-20 minutes on a full charge. This limited runtime is barely enough to tackle even a modestly sized yard, meaning frequent stops to recharge or swap batteries.

The cutting power is another significant drawback. The 10-inch cutting swath is adequate for light trimming, but the 0.065-inch line struggles with anything more substantial than standard grass. The motor tends to stall when faced with thicker patches or when edging along tougher surfaces like sidewalks. This issue makes the trimmer less effective and more frustrating to use, as it requires a slow and deliberate approach to avoid stalling.

Usability

One of the key selling points of this trimmer is its ease of use, but my experience was mixed. The lightweight design and cordless nature are definite advantages, making it easy to maneuver around the yard without the hassle of cords or the weight of a gas engine. For anyone with a medium to large yard, this means you'll either need multiple batteries or a lot of patience. The lack of a fast-charging option is a significant downside, especially when compared to other brands that offer quicker recharge times.

Durability and Maintenance

Durability is a major concern with this Craftsman trimmer. The plastic components, particularly around the spool and line feed mechanism, are prone to breaking. This issue isn't just a minor inconvenience; it can completely halt your yard work until you can find replacement parts, which are not always readily available. The spool cap, in particular, is fragile and can break after just a few uses, leading to additional costs and downtime.

Maintenance is also more cumbersome than it should be. The automatic line feed system is unreliable, often requiring manual intervention to keep the line at the correct length. This defeats the purpose of having an automatic system and adds unnecessary hassle to the trimming process.

Final Thoughts

The Craftsman Cordless 10 in. WEEDWACKER String Trimmer and Edger Kit has a few redeeming qualities, such as its lightweight design and the convenience of being cordless. However, these positives are overshadowed by significant drawbacks in performance, durability, and battery life. The tool is simply not powerful enough for anything beyond light trimming, and the frequent need to manually adjust the line or recharge the battery makes it more of a chore than it should be.

Given these issues, I find it hard to recommend this tool to anyone but those with the smallest of yards and the lightest of trimming needs. For more demanding tasks or larger areas, you would be better served by investing in a more robust and reliable option, even if it means spending a bit more upfront. In its current form, the Craftsman CMCST915D1 fails to live up to the brand's reputation for quality and reliability, making it a tough sell for anyone serious about maintaining their yard efficiently.
